Where to Watch Wednesday’s Presidential Debate

Presidential debates are important moments for our democracy. They’re also often high on histrionics, cliches, platitudes, redundancy, secrecy and oh so much more. Many Americans deal with the dual nature of debates by gathering in neighborhood bars and restaurants, preparing drinking games and exchanging knowing glances to endure the spectacle in the safety of groups. Come, join us.

The first debate will take place on Wednesday, October 3 from 9 to 10:30 p.m. The hour and a half event will be focused on domestic policy and hosted by Jim Lehrer of PBS.

In Ditmas Park, you have a couple of options:

Picket Fence will be showing the debates on a big screen TV in the backyard. A considerable group is expected for the Obama campaign’s official watch party.

Sycamore will be showing the debates as well but has yet to figure out exactly how they’ll handle the event.

Remember to show up a bit early to get to know those with whom you will commiserate! Are there any other viewing parties in the neighborhood?
