What’s With the Cones on 6th and 7th Avenues?

Spot any cones on 6th or 7th Avenues? How about 23rd Street? Community Board 7 reports that Con Ed will be doing an additional two weeks of work on a project started last weekend.

Aaron Brashear (Concerned Citizens of Greenwood Heights and CB7 member) says that it “seems that a main artery from the sub-station was damaged and they are repairing it.”

In a little “Power 101,” he also notes that:

Cables from the sub-station are actually a cable in a cable surrounded by oil. So, in order to cut the cable, they must freeze the oil on one side of the cut (thus the liquid nitrogen truck on 7th and 22nd St.) to drain the oil at the other end and make the repair.
