Weekend Events Roundup: Memorials, Flea Market, Comedy, And Music

This weekend is a mixed bag of solemnity and joy. We will remember the tragic attacks of 9/11 on Sunday. Among the various memorial services happening around the area, there are also events of laughter, happiness, and community. Take your pick, and have a wonderful weekend.

Unforgettable Fire Live at Aviator Sports and Events Center
When: Friday, September 9. 8pm-11pm
Where: Aviator Sports and Events Center. 3159 Flatbush Ave Brooklyn, NY 11234
What: Unforgettable Fire is a U2 cover band. They formed on New Years Day (typical) in 1995. After 20 years of playing together, Unforgettable Fire is renowned as being as close as it gets to actually seeing U2 live, and for a much more affordable price. Tickets are only $15.

8th Annual T.E.A.L. Walk and 5K Run
When: Saturday, September 10. 8am-1pm
Where: Prospect Park, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Raise awareness and money to fight ovarian cancer in this walk/run. There will be numerous activities, educational booths, and entertainment for the whole family. The 2.5 mile walk is not competitive, but the 5K is timed.

Sheepshead Bay Flea Market
When: Saturday, September 10 8am-3pm
Where: United Methodist Church of Sheepshead Bay. 3087 Ocean Ave.
What: This weekly flea market is a great place to find treasures you never knew you needed in your life. It’s free to attend, and a great event to bring the family to.

Comedy Night at The Mirage
When: Sunday, September 11 at 6pm
Where: Mirage Diner 717 Kings Highway
What: Enjoy dinner at the Mirage Diner, and then laugh this it hurts with a comedy show afterwards. Al Martin, Ellen Orchid, and Dennis Ross are the comics for Sunday. The cost is $45 per person, and that includes tax and one cocktail. Gratuity is not included.

Brookly/Bedford Park 9/11 Memorial and Candle Vigil
When: Sunday, September 11 at 6:30pm
Where: Bill Brown Park, Avenue X and Bedford Avenue
What: The Brooklyn/Bedford Park 9/11 memorial committee invites you to join them in remembering the 15th anniversary of the most tragic day in our nation’s history. Bring your memories, thoughts, prayers, and a candle to remember those we lost and to thank the first responders for all they do for us.

9/11 Memorial in Marine Park
When: Sunday September 11, at 6pm
Where: 3000 Fillmore Ave, near the flagpole
What: Hosted by Senator Martin Golden, this memorial service will include prayers, music, and candlelit reflections. Representatives from the military and local clergy and religious leaders will be participating in the event program.

9/11 Memorial on the American Veteran’s Memorial Pier
When: Sunday, September 11, at 7:30pm
Where: American Veteran’s Memorial Pier, Shore Road and Bay Ridge Avenue
What: This memorial is also hosted by Senator Golden. It will also include prayers, music, and candlelit reflections.
