New Drawings: Mexico And New York City
When: Opening reception Saturday, January 18, 2pm to 5pm/Exhibition runs through February 23
Where: 44o Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Street
What: Artist Vicki Behm introduces her second solo exhibition at 440 Gallery this weekend. With her black ink drawings on handmade paper and collages, Behm “views fragments of daily life in detail, noting idiosyncrasies and ironies with warmth and gentle mirth,” both here in New York City, and in her summer home of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Story Time With Lauren Castillo
When: Sunday, January 19, 11:30am
Where: Powerhouse on 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Brooklyn Illustrator Lauren Castillo hosts this Sunday’s Powerhouse Story Time, and introduces kids to a “plucky stray cat” on a European Grand Tour in her book City Cat.

After The Holidays E-Waste Collection
When: Sunday, January 19, 10am to 4pm
Where: Prospect Park, 3rd Street entrance
What: You can drop off both working and non-working electronics at the 3rd Street entrance to the park on Prospect Park West, and LES Ecology will take them off your hands for either refurbishing or recycling. As an added bonus, Anyone who drops-off electronic equipment will receive a coupon for $25 off a purchase of $100 or more at Tekserve and will be entered in Tekserve’s raffle, where you can win a MacBook Air. Zipcar members will receive a coupon for $15 of free driving credit for coming to the event.

Musicwood Screening
When: Sunday, January 19, 5pm
Where: Barbès, 376 9th Street
What: Due to a logging practice known as clear-cutting, the spruce tree that the acoustic guitar has been manufactured from for hundreds of years is on the brink of disappearing. In this documentary, owners of the top guitar makers unite with Greenpeace in the hope of finding a sustainable solution.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Programs In Prospect Park
When: Monday, January 20
Where: Prospect Park
What: The park is open and hosting several events, including a number of free activities from 12-4pm, like Nature on the Go at the Audubon Center and a community conversation about King at the Lefferts Historic House. The zoo will also be open from 10-4:30pm, and there’s a special program for young tennis pros at the Tennis Center.
