This weekend is jam-packed with lots of cool and fun things to see and do.
There’s an Easter egg hunt and bird watching; Japanese flute and Argentinian guitar; painting and sculpture; film, music, and dance; and so much more!
Shona Sculpture Sale
When: Friday, April 7 to Sunday, April 9, 1pm to 6pm
Where: CAMBA Shona Gallery, 19 Winthrop Street, Prospect-Lefferts Garden
What: Since 1991, CAMBA has showcased an extensive collection of Shona sculptures that reflect the deeply held spiritual beliefs and folklore of Zimbabwe’s largest ethnic group. With over 650 works and prices ranging from $25 to $15,000, guests can purchase an original piece of art by a Shona artist. Proceeds help to fund CAMBA’s services for 45,000 New Yorkers in need.
Community Film Viewing and Making

Where: Center for Family Life, PS 503/506, 343 60th Street, Sunset Park
What: At this Lincoln Center’s Boro-Linc program, families and community members screen a series of award-winning short films by kids and professionals from around the world and then make an animation of their own.

Teen Night at the Brooklyn Museum

What: Workshops, live music, performances, and food focusing on artist Joseph Kosuth’s neon sculpture, Infinite Blue

What For? Why Not? “Flowers in Space” and Black Roots Music
When: Friday, April 7, 8pm
Where: Triskelion Arts’ Muriel Schulman Theater, 106 Calyer Street (enter on Banker Street), Greenpoint
What: Patti Bradshaw’s Flowers in Space uses dance, puppetry and slide projections in a solo performance inspired by turn of the twentieth-century painter, poet, and set designer Florine Stettheimer. In Folk First: Black Roots Music, Vienna Carroll and Keith Johnston celebrate spirituals, work songs, prison blues, and sea shanties of antebellum African- Americans, and their links to contemporary artists.

SPRIG Easter Egg Hunt
When: Saturday, April 8, 9:30am to 10:30am
Where: Sunset Park, 41st Street, 44th Street, between 5th & 7th Avenues, Sunset Park
What: Help hide the eggs in Sunset Park at 9:30am. The hunt starts at 10am sharp! Each family is asked to contribute 10-15 pre-stuffed eggs per child. The hunt takes place on the lawn next to the flagpole in the middle of the park. There will be two hunting areas—one for tots up to 4-years-old, and another for 5- to 8-year-olds. Bring a basket!
Magnificent Magnolias Tour
When: Saturday, April 8, 11am to 1pm
Where: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 150 Washington Avenue, Crown Heights
What: Learn all about these beautiful spring-blooming trees as well as the the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s history of hybridizing the mighty magnolia.

Spring Revolution at Diaspora Art Mart

Wordless Music Presents Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, Screening + Live Score

What: Catch the perfectionist auteur’s lush epic with live orchestra accompaniment performing the film’s lush, Oscar-winning soundtrack including Schubert’s Piano Trio in E-Flat Major, D. 929 and Handel’s Sarabande.

“Justice For All” Benefit Concert & Sing-Along
When: Saturday, April 8 at 7pm
Where: Brooklyn Friends Meetinghouse, 110 Schermerhorn Street, Downtown Brooklyn
What: A benefit for Brooklyn Defense Committee, a community-based group working to create an emergency response network to support immigrants and refugees in Brooklyn facing deportation. The concert includes blues-gospel singer/civic activist Lea Gilmore, musicians Annie Patterson & Peter Blood, and the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus.
How Much: $20 suggested donation
CARLOS PAVAN Classical Guitar Recital
When: Saturday, April 8, 6pm to 7pm
Where: Park Slope Community Church, 251 12th Street, Park Slope
What: The Argentina-born, New York-based, modern classical guitar composer will perform a selection of Argentinian tango/folklore music as well as original works.
How Much: $10 suggested donation
Tsugarubue Concert (Japanese Bamboo Flute)
When: Saturday, April 8 at 7:30pm
Where: MIRROR Tea House, 575 Union Street, Gowanus
What: Bunta Satoh (Tsugarubue), Hiroaki Fukushi (taiko drum), and Yui Kitamura (keyboard) perform traditional Tsugaru music from a northern region in Japan, along with original compositions. You can also learn to play the Tsugarubue at workshops during the day from 3pm to 4pm and 5:30pm to 6:30pm ($10 + $5 flute rental).

What For? Why Not? with Michael Bellar and Marielis Garcia
When: Saturday, April 8, 8pm
Where: Triskelion Arts’ Muriel Schulman Theater, 106 Calyer Street (enter on Banker Street), Greenpoint
What: Marielis Garcia performs Fists and Starts, inspired by Stan Douglas’s photograph Shoes. Michael Bellar performs using every limb of his body to create as much rhythm, melody, and harmony as possible.

Birding in Peace

Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Greenwood Heights
What: Before the cemetery gates open to the general public, birding expert Rob Jett will lead a peaceful Sunday morning walking tour in search of the many birds that call Green-Wood Cemetery home. A Bird Checklist will be provided to all tour participants.

Coney Island History Project

Where: Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, 3059 West 12th Street, Coney Island
