Weekday Fun: The Best Events January 20-22

Gonzo, a documentary about the corner of 3rd and 3rd, trivia, and more to keep you entertained (and warm!) in the neighborhood this week:

Muppet Vault: Gonzo The Great!
When: Monday, January 20, 7:30pm (doors 7pm)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: It’s all things Gonzo tonight at this celebration of perhaps the most interesting of the Muppets. Note that this one’s not for the kids, though, it’s 21+.
How much: $8, tickets available in advance

The Culinary Cocktail: Seasonal Drinking And Preserving
When: Tuesday, January 21, 7pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The second in a fun three-part series about spirits in the city, this one is led by Benjamin Zorn, a local bartender at Tooker Alley and The Guthrie Inn, and focuses on cocktails that use local produce (even in the winter months), including how to preserve summer flavors through infusions and syrups. Free samples to those who are over 21!
How much: Free!

Union Street Screening Series
When: Tuesday, January 21, 7pm
Where: Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center, 748 Union Street
What: The monthly series that screens independent short, feature, experimental, documentary, dance, comedic, and narrative films will feature: At the Corner of 3rd and 3rd by Max Kutner (trailer shown above); Silent Exposure by Christopher Nostrand; Day 61 (Occupy Wall Street) by Donal Foreman; and Lucky Boy by Alex Gaylon.
How much: $10 suggested donation

Global Lens Film Series: Southwest
When: Wednesday, January 22, 6:30pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: A dreamlike and mysterious Portugese film about a young woman named Clarice who gives birth on her deathbed to a baby girl also christened Clarice by the bruxa (or witch) attending the nearly simultaneous moments of death and birth. Spirited away to a remote lakeside village, baby Clarice lives her whole life in the span of 24 hours.

When: Wednesday, January 22, 8:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Huddle together with your most knowledgeable friends and warm yourselves with brain power (and a drink or two, perhaps) during this trivia night where teams of up to 6 people can win $50 in prizes.
