No need to wait until the weekend for some fun — with events from a Moth StorysSlam to the National Night Out Against Crime, and from a canning workshop to Harry Potter trivia, there’s plenty to check out this week. Details on those events and more:

Shape Up NYC: Couch To 5k
When: Monday, August 4, 7pm
Where: Meets in Prospect Park on the porch of Lefferts Historic House
What: Don’t let the summer heat get you down! Lace up those sneakers, and make your fitness dreams a reality in Prospect Park. This weekly jog combines group running, walking, and conditioning exercises to get you in shape for long distance running.
How much: Free!

The Moth StorySlam
When: Monday, August 5, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Whether you’re chosen to tell your 5-minute story or you just get to listen to others, this month’s topic — ambition — should be a pretty fun one! The winning storyteller of the night gets to move on to a GrandSlam Championship.
How much: $8 at the door.

78th Precinct National Night Out Against Crime
When: Tuesday, August 5, 5-8pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: A great opportunity to show some community pride, so bring the family out, get to know the 78th — and its new Commanding Officer, Captain Frank DiGiacomo — and take a stand against neighborhood crime.
How much: Free!

Harry Potter Trivia
When: Tuesday, August 5, 8pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: For all those who made it to PotterCon this past weekend, and are looking to extend the party with some trivia, put that wizarding knowledge to the test!
How much: Free, but first-come, first-served, so arrive early.

Punderdome 3000
When: Tuesday, August 5, 8pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Brooklyn’s premier monthly punning competition is back in all its linguistic glory. The event is open to all, but only 18 spots are reserved for competitors who want to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making, and they go to individuals or duos on a first-come/first-served basis.
How much: Tickets: $6 in advance, $7 at the door.

Summer In A Jar! The Art Of Food Preservation
When: Wednesday, August 6, 1pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Learn how to safely can goods in your own home — you’ll get a demo to show you how, plus printed instructions to take home. Chef Jin, a personal chef, urban farmer, certified health coach, and local TV personality, will lead the workshop, and you’ll have the opportunity to win jars of canned goods the chef has made.
How much: Free!

TriviaTryst
When: Wednesday, August 6, 8:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Gather up your most knowledgeable friends and display your powerful brains (and temper that power with a drink or two, perhaps) during this trivia night where teams of up to 6 people can win $50 in prizes, plus prizes from Brooklyn Brewery.
