Maybe you’ve forgotten, or maybe you just don’t want to think about it–but the fact is, taxes are due a week from today on Tuesday, April 15. We’ve assembled a list of local resources to make the process as painless as possible.

First, you should know about free tax preparation services taking place at CAMBA, the Flatbush Reformed Church, the Flatbush YMCA, the Flatbush Library, and more–full details on schedules, locations, and eligibility are available through Community Board 14. And then…

If you’re doing your own taxes:

  • You can download forms online through the IRS website.
  • TurboTax takes out the guesswork, but costs vary depending on which services you choose.
  • TaxAct also claims to be a free service–but is that always true?

If you’re having your taxes done:

  • City Financial (763 Coney Island Avenue between Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads) will be open weekdays from 10am-7pm, Saturday from 11am-7pm, and Sunday from 12-3pm. Appointments are highly recommended, and Maria says they may be able to accommodate customers outside regular business hours who call ahead at 718-462-3080. They can also help with audit letters from the IRS.
  • H & R Block (771 Coney Island Avenue between Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads) will be open from 9am-9pm daily through Tuesday, April 15. They are accepting walk-ins and appointments. Call 718-693-1100 for more info.
