UPDATE: They’ve Got Vans, But Need Generator

Tomorrow morning – the kind folks at 368 Stratford will still be accepting donations to be brought to Staten Island between 7-10am. The most needed items are: cleaning supplies, tools, bags, bleach, masks, cleaning gloves of all sizes.

At 10am, they are looking for another 20 or so folks with cars to help transport donations to Staten Island. If you are fortunate enough to have a car, and at least a half a tank of gas and the possibility of a full day to take this trip, please stop by at 10am. We are hoping cars will start leaving around 10:30. If you are able bodied and can help with loading and unloading – please come help as well.

UPDATE, midnight, from Ben:

We are headed out tomorrow at 10am. We have received a donation of 4 giant passenger vans and Ditmas Parkers have donated enough supplies to fill all 4!

2 are headed to Far Rockaway and 2 headed to the Tottenville neighborhood of Staten Island. We will receive police escorts to both locations and have very specific destinations in order to ensure the best allocation of our resources. The on-site coordinators we are working with have requested specific items and we have the stock to fulfill all of their needs.

The neighborhood in Far Rockaway that we are headed to has requested a generator and gas! They acknowledge and appreciate the severity of the situation and therefore understand the lack of generators, but they have been honest with what they need. They are unable to charge phones in order to call in emergencies or to call loved ones. Everyone knows that it is a big request right now, BUT if anyone is able to get a hold of a generator and some gas so that we can bring them to Far Rockaway tomorrow at 10am, YOU will be fulfilling a giant need.

Finally, on behalf of all the volunteers that worked all day today and those that are making the trip out tomorrow, thank you for the fast, efficient and overwhelming response to our call for supplies.
