If you have four to six extra hours this month, consider joining the AARP Foundation‘s Bill Payer Program to help older adults throughout the five boroughs keep up with their personal expenses.

Volunteers for the Council of Senior Centers and Services of NYC-operated program are asked to visit clients at home to complete tasks such as writing checks to be signed, organizing bills, and reconciling bank statements. Clients make their own financial decisions, but could use your assistance with the more hands-on aspects of bill paying and balancing their checkbooks.

All volunteers are screened and given background and credit checks in addition to regular training and supervision. Commitment to the program is approximately one year, and entails one or two visits per month (about four to six hours total). Multilingual volunteers, especially those who speak Spanish, are encouraged to apply.

Donating your time can help keep seniors happy at home. To learn more, call 718-858-2164 or email volunteerbpp@cscs-ny.org.
