A 29-year-old woman was robbed and then raped in a taxi outside of her Sunset Park residence, cops say.
The incident took place early Saturday morning, January 7 at approximately 3:00am.
Police say the driver picked up the victim at Cancun Bar at 513 Coney Island Avenue near Turner Place on the border of the Kensington and Ditmas Park neighborhoods.
He then drove the woman to her home in what police described as a red mini-van. After pulling up in front of the victim’s home in Sunset Park, the driver pulled out a knife and demanded money from her. Cops say the woman complied and gave the driver cash.
The driver then got into the back seat of the mini-van and forcibly raped the woman.
Police sources say that the driver then kept the victim in his car and drove her to a nearby Burger King to find his phone which he had lost earlier in the evening. The location of which Burger King they went to has not yet been released.
The victim later walked into the 68th Precinct Police Station (335 65th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues) and reported the incident. She was taken to an area hospital for evaluation where she was treated and released.
Police describe the suspect as male, Hispanic, with medium complexion, and approximately 20-25 years old.
The police have not released information concerning the victim’s home address. In addition, cops have not yet said which taxi or livery company the driver works for.
The NYPD’s Brooklyn Special Victims Unit is currently investigating the incident.
