Not feeling so hot in the fluctuating weather? Let laziness get the best of you this long winter, and wondering about your health as a result? Fortunately, there are a few events coming up around the neighborhood to help you feel better or stay well.

Health Fair at Our Lady of Refuge’s School Building
1087 Ocean Avenue (between Foster Avenue and Farragut Road)
Sunday, May 4, from 10am-5pm

A huge range of free services will be provided, including eye exams and dental screenings, cardiovascular health screenings and EKG tests, blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol screenings, prostate and colon cancer awareness services, podiatrist services, mental health screenings, HIV and AIDS counseling, information on natural health options, nutritional counseling and weight management, pediatrics screenings, information on asthma and quitting smoking, bone density screenings, fire safety and CPR education, and breast cancer awareness services and mammograms. Spring for Health Mother’s Day Celebration
Cortelyou Early Childhood Center Annex, 386 Marlborough Road (between Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads)
Sunday, May 4, from 11am-4pm

This event looks like it will be focused on more holistic approaches to health. Neighbors are invited to come learn about music therapy, massage, acupuncture, Reiki,  life coaching, aromatherapy, chiropractic services, and more, and parents can nosh on healthy vegetarian food while kids get their faces painted. There will be raffles, too. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids, and $10 for a family of three or more.

Infant/Child CPR Class
Lark, 1007 Church Avenue (between E 10th Street and Stratford Road)
Wednesday, May 14 at 7:30pm

This class, taught by an American Heart Association instructor from Baby Bodyguards, will focus on CPR for babies and kids, but will briefly address CPR for adults as well. You’ll also learn about choking prevention and safely administering the Heimlich maneuver, SIDS prevention, safe car seat use, and general safety and baby-proofing. The class is about 90 minutes, and space is limited. Admission is $40; reserve your spot here.

Free Mammograms from the American Italian Cancer Foundation
Mobile clinic, 2294 Nostrand Avenue (between Avenues I and J)
Thursday, May 15, from 9am-4:30pm

Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs once again presents this crucial free service, this time closer to the Brooklyn College area. Those eligible for exams are female New York City residents 40 and older who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months.
