Councilmember Jumaane Williams is presenting two free events this week for the community:
Rebuilding Haiti: A Haitian Heritage Month Forum
Thursday, May 17, 7-9pm
Brooklyn College Student Center (SUBO), East 27th Street and Campus Road
In collaboration with the Haitian American Business Network and the Brooklyn College Graduate Student Organization. Hear from organizations that serve different parts of Haiti, as well as activists on the ground in Haiti who will be participating via Skype. Panelists will give New Yorkers real options to help with the rebuilding and renewal effort.
2nd Annual Not in My Hood March & Resource Fair
Saturday, May 19, 9:30am
Meet at Paerdegat Park (Albany Avenue and Foster Avenue)
This march will give our communities an opportunity to speak out against the senseless violence that occurs in central Brooklyn neighborhoods–particularly among at-risk youth. The two-mile march will culminate with a variety of opportunities for educational, employment, and after-school/summer activities at Tilden Educational Campus Field (Beverley Road between East 57th and East 59th Streets).
In addition, Councilmember Williams is currently looking for interns in his office. “It’s not just going to get coffee,” Williams promised at the CB14 meeting this week, saying that they would work to make it a unique opportunity for young people to learn about city politics.
