Following Michael R. Bloomberg’s three-term run as mayor of New York City, the 2013 New York City mayoral election is the first race in 12 years without an incumbent mayoral candidate. Need a little background to understand the race? The City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism and its Center for Community and Ethnic Media have created an interactive New York City Election Atlas to help.

The online tool provides maps of where votes came from in previous elections and predicts which candidate running this year is most likely to receive them. More specifically, the site’s visuals show you the previous results of all the Democratic mayoral candidates who have run for citywide office before, including maps to illustrate gubernational and presidential election results as points of comparison.

The site also has information on voter turnout by race and ethnicity, household income and occupation, and by location. Explore the Election Atlas and let us know what you think, locals.
