Tropical Storm Hermine Might Dampen Our Labor Day Weekend

If you were planning a backyard barbeque for this labor day weekend, you might want to think about getting a tent, because it could get wet.

Tropical Storm Hermine formed on Wednesday in the Gulf of Mexico, and is set to hit land on Friday. It will hit Florida rather hard — Florida is already in a state of emergency — and continue to head northeast, causing trouble for our region on Sunday, and possibly Monday.

The storm could reach hurricane status if the wind speeds increase, which is likely to happen right before it hits land in Florida, according to meteorologist Mr. G of Pix11.

It is important to note that the storm can change course drastically before it gets to us. One thing to definitely be aware of is the strengthening of the rip tides this weekend. Beach goers are to use extreme caution when getting in the ocean water this weekend.
