The weekend is finally here and we’d like to help you unwind or get riled up just blocks from your home. Whether you’re hungry for volunteering opportunities, art auctions, Tony Danza performances, or legendary live music — this is your spot for the hottest weekend events in (and around) Ditmas Park. PS 130’s Art Auction at Lark
When: Friday, November 18 from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Bid online beginning November 14th here.
Where: Lark Cafe, 1007 Church Avenue between East 10th Street and Stratford Road.
What: Bid on art for a good cause at PS 130’s 4th annual Fall Art Auction, featuring work by local artists. This one-night event raises money to supply art materials for all classrooms. Last year, 70 pieces were donated raising more than $10,000. For more information, email ps130art2gmail.com.
How Much: $10 suggested donation at the door.

Brownie troop Food Drive in Kensington
When: Friday, November 18 from 4:30pm to 6pm.
Where: Foodtown Supermarket, 382 McDonald Avenue between Albermarle Road and Church Avenue.
What: Help a local brownie troop collect food for CAMBA’s Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry. Bring (or buy in the store) canned tuna, chicken, and salmon, dried milk, beans, fruit, vegetables, and pasta, cereal, peanut butter, and 100% fruit juice — no dented or expired cans.
How Much: Donations.

Thanksgiving Luncheon at The Flatbush Reformed Church
When: Saturday, November 19, beginning at 1pm.
Where: 890 Flatbush Avenue between Church Avenue and Snyder Avenue.
What: Celebrate the holiday with your community at the free Thanksgiving luncheon. All are welcome.
How Much: Free.

Junior Volunteer Corps at Prospect Park
When: Saturday, November 19 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
Where: Prospect Park
What: It’s a great season for volunteering at our favorite park. Families and kids, join the Prospect Park Alliance for leaf raking and refreshments. Please pre-register online here, or call the volunteer corp at (718) 287-3400.

Equality for Flatbush general meeting
When: Saturday, November 19 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Where: Flatbush Library, 22 Linden Boulevard between Flatbush and Bedford Avenues.
What: Caught by the activism bug? Get involved with a local organization — “Equality for Flatbush (E4F) is a people of color-led, multi-national grassroots organization that does anti-police repression, affordable housing and anti-gentrification organizing in the Flatbush and East Flatbush communities.”
How much: Free.

90-Second Newbery Film Festival
When: Saturday, November 19 from 3pm to 4pm.
Where: Cortelyou Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road.
What: Kids, come join film project ’90-Second Newbery Film Festival’ — a video contest in which kids create weird short movies that tell the entire story of a Newbery-winning book in just 90 seconds. On Saturday, the group will pick the book, next Saturday November 26th they’ll write the script, then on December 3rd, they’ll don costumes and film.
How much: Free

Discussion: Gentrification from Williamsburg to Flatbush
When: Saturday, November 19 from 5pm to 7pm.
Where: Caribbeing House, 794 Flatbush Avenue between Caton Avenue and Lenox Road.
What: Join panelists for a discussion on gentrification and its effects on the culture, commerce and the greater Flatbush community.
How Much: Free

Afro Caribbean Music at Bar Chord
When: Saturday November 19 at 10pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road, between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Alegba and Friends play Bar Chord with live Haitian/Afro-Caribbean music.
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget to buy drinks at the bar.

NY Cares Coat drive at Sycamore
When: Sunday, November 20 from 2pm to 6pm.
Where: Sycamore Brooklyn, 1118 Cortelyou Road between Stratford and Westminster Roads.
What: Bring a coat and get a free drink at Sycamore. This winter is supposed to be a cold one, and according to NY Cares “coats are of the highest need in New York City during this time of the year.” Bring as many coats as you like and give back with local businesses Sycamore Brooklyn, Stems Brooklyn and Kandylion.
How much: Free drink when you bring a coat.

PLG Fall Bar and Business Crawl
When: Sunday, November 20 from 11am to 2pm.
Where: Locations throughout Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
What: Enjoy an amazing day in PLG at the many bars, restaurants and businesses from the Parkside Empire & Flatbush Avenue Merchants Association. Check out the many participating venues here (some of our favorite venues are on the list!)
How Much: The crawl is free and open to the public, but you can also buy a $15 an all-access pass. All proceeds from the pass go to the Flatbush Tenant Coalition.

Tony Danza: Standards & Stories at Brooklyn College
When: Sunday, November 20 at 3pm.
Where: Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College.
What: Emmy-nominated Tony Danza brings a selection of his favorite standards from the Great American Songbook and Honeymoon in Vegas while interweaving stories about his life. Check out our full interview with Tony Danza here.
How Much: Tickets between $36–$55, get yours here.

Open Ground with David Virelles & Frank Kimbrough at the Owl Music Parlor
When: Sunday, November 20 at 8pm (doors at 7:30).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Come see pianist & composer Frank Kimbrough and Cuban Pianist David Virelles play solo sets.
How Much: $15 advance, $18 at the door.
