#ThrowbackThursday: Brooklyn Technical High School
Founded in 1922, Brooklyn Technical High School is one of New York City’s three first specialized science high schools, with Stuyvesant High School and Bronx High School of Science. Its original address was at
49 Flatbush Avenue Extension, but it was moved to its current location on Fort Greene Place across from the park in 1930.Students used the seventh-floor foundry pictured above, which was closed in the 1990s, to cast sand molds for an industrial processes course.Brooklyn Tech began admitting female students in 1970. Two Nobel Laureates have graduated from Brooklyn Tech, which was named one of the country’s 50 best high schools for math and science by U.S. News & World Report in 2011.
