Thousands of people were out on Coney Island Avenue between Foster and Ave H on Saturday night to celebrate Chand Raat, including some neighbors who sent in pictures.

Flood lights, gauzy saris, and women spread all over the sidewalk painting Mehndi on each other’s hands and arms, the once-a-year event is like an invitation to a massive celebration right in the center of a distant town.

Veggie street samosas are always the way to go. Then finish the night with potato chana chat at Lahore Restaurant (1076 Coney Island Avenue).
