Holiday Tree Lighting

What: Join Our Lady of Refuge Church and the Catholic Churches of Brooklyn for the lighting of the holiday tree at Grand Army Plaza.

Kids Create: Kids Knit Now!
When: Wednesday, December 16, 4pm
Where: Kensington Library, 4207 18th Avenue
What: Make cool gifts for yourself, your friends, and your family! Class size is limited. Please pick up a ticket at the childrens’ reference desk.

Read! Write! Create!
When: Wednesday, December 16, 4pm
Where: Clinton Hill Library, 380 Washington Avenue
What: Have you ever wanted to make comics of your own? In this one-hour workshop, you will read hilarious comic strips, write an original manuscript, and create your own short comic – no drawing expertise necessary!

Cortelyou Friends Storytime

What: Enjoy a story with your friends at the library.

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, December 17, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Heights
What: Through the Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories, librarians read aloud to children and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Mr. Keats’ books to keep.

Creative Art Workshops: The Little Little Girl with the BIG BIG Voice
When: Saturday, December 19, 11am

What: Turn paper, string and cups into megaphones and other sound devices with author/illustrator Kristen Balouch.

Winter Celebration Concert with Suzi Shelton

What: Celebrate winter with Suzi Shelton, an award-winning NYC singer/songwriter and performer who has been making catchy and meaningful music for families for more than a decade.

What: Enjoy some hands-on exploration of colors, magnets, bugs, counting, and patterns at this preschool STEM program.

Sunday Storytime with David Ercolini
When: Sunday, December 20, 11:30am
Where: powerHouse on 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, South Slope
What: Join illustrator David Ercolini for a reading of this funny, over-the-top new spin on the classic Christmas poem, The Night Before Christmas.

The Magic of Rubbings
When: Sunday, December 20, 4:40pm
Where: 440 Gallery, 6th Avenue, South Slope
What: Glue some white shapes to a white paper. Layer and add more white shapes. What is it? You can’t see it! But, when you place a paper on top of it it and rub it with a black crayon, an image appears. Join Susan and Shanee at 440 to look and explore the huge amount of art in the Small Works Show to get ideas for your art.

Movies @ the Library: The Polar Express
When: Monday, December 21, 11:30am

What: Come enjoy an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
