This Weekend's Open House Picks

We’ve rounded up a bunch of nearby houses that will be open for buyer perusal this Saturday, Sunday, and even next Tuesday. While our new nearly $3M house will be open on May 18 from 12-1:30pm, the places below have that authentic vintage charm–and least a slightly lower price tag. Thoughts?

239 E 23rd Street
List Price: $465,000
Size: 4+ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms split over 2 units
Details: Anyone who’s saying to themselves, “But this isn’t Ditmas Park!” can just stop it right now, because I don’t care. This place is a house with a yard, has as many bedrooms as that $3M one, contains an apartment for income potential, and, according to the ad, is “SOLID & IN GOOD CONDITION”– plus, neighbors evidently care enough to have won a Greenest Block in Brooklyn award. You might have to pull up a few carpets and walk a few extra blocks to the stuff you like across Flatbush, but really, for this price, make like these two did on Ocean Parkway and just go for it. End of discussion.
Open House: Sunday, May 18 from 1-3pm; Tuesday, May 20 from 5:30-6:30pm

280 E 9th Street
List Price: $950,000
Size: 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom
Details: What’s that? Not as many bathrooms and over twice the price of the place above? Fine–as much fun as it is driving that point home, this place is a stunner. Those floors! That moulding! Even the trees outside the window! All make for what looks like a lovely, peaceful oasis just west of Coney Island Avenue that doesn’t need nearly as much work as the first house. This is an extra great one for musicians, as part of the basement is already being used as a recording studio.
Open House: Sunday, May 18 from 3:30-4:30pm

390 E 16th Street
List Price: $975,000
Size: 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms split over 2 units
Details: Here’s a place that’s been partially updated/restored to its hardwood beauty, contains a rental unit to help pay off that mortgage/remaining reno costs, and has enough bathrooms to go around. It’s similar to a few of the houses we’ve seen on Marlborough Road lately in that the location is super accessible to Cortelyou transportation and other amenities, but you will have to deal with the train just out back.
Open House: Sunday, May 18 from 2-4pm

62 Stratford Road
List Price: $1,549,000
Size: 5 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms
Details: There’s no denying this is a very, very pretty place. One of the few true brownstones in the area, this home has lovely original details, contains a rental unit, offers a deep lot with some room to build, and is in a convenient location right around the corner from Church’s growing restaurant row (but without the train noise the Cortelyou house has). Maybe $1.549M is reasonable–we’ve all seen local prices as of late–but at nearly $600,000 more than the next closest house on the list this week, what do you think?
Open House: Saturday, May 17 from 1-2:30pm
