With the summer over, the beaches of Coney Island may be closed to swimmers, but this weekend, they will draw hundreds of kite aficionados of all ages.

Coney Island International Kite Festival is returning September 26 and 27, 10am – 5pm, bringing flying creatures of all sizes and shapes to the beach. Come see the 70-foot octopi, the seven-story pink-winged pig, unicorns, scuba divers, many more strange and unusual kites as they swoop through the sky.

The free event is open to all ages and skill levels, both kite flyers and casual observers. There will also be plenty of boardwalk characters, mimes, clowns, bands, and gourmet food stands at the shindig, so bring a camera and some cash!

The kite festival coincides with a Hot Rod & Tattoo Show, happening at the Coney Island Museum, as well as the Great Irish Fair at MCU Park, so there will be no shortage of stuff to do and see in this corner of southern Brooklyn Saturday.
