We’re heading into February this weekend – kick of the month with some fun events right here in the neighborhood.

Thursday, January 31

Enjoy Jazz on Church Ave: This week’s Intuit Concert Series at Lark features two guitarists, Nico Soffiato and Andrew Smiley, at 8pm, followed by a trio featuring Joe Hertenstein on drums, Christof Knoche on reeds, and Simon Jermyn on bass.

Try out your act at 773 Lounge’s open mic, 8:30pm.

Friday, February 1

Hear Storytelling in Song: At 9pm Sycamore hosts Talia Billig, a NYC-based singer (pictured above) who weaves her love of words and storytelling into her melodies on piano. Neighbor Susan Lehrer tells us she’s “a wonderful talent” who is “not to be missed.”

Drink beers and hang out with babies at this Lark meet-up, 4pm.

Saturday, February 2

Tour a Famous Local House: Neighbor Gloria Fischer is offering tours of her Japanese house again, starting with this one at 11am. You can also schedule private tours one week an advance, for a slightly higher price ($20, rather than the regular $15). Email 131tour@gmail.com for more info or to RSVP.

Meet fellow dog owners at Prospect Park’s monthly Coffee Bark, 7am.
Hear stories at the Cortelyou Library, for kids up to 5, 11am.
Volunteer at a soup kitchen at Flatbush Reformed Church, 12pm.
Strings galore at Sycamore with Ommie Wise & The Down Hill Strugglers, 9pm.

Sunday, February 3

Listen to Jazz With the Whole Family: So you like jazz, and your kids are showing interest as well, but hanging out at clubs late at night with them is totally not an option. Neighbor, parent, and jazz musician Yoon Sun Choi feels you, so she’ll be playing a 4pm show at Lark that is fun and appropriate for all ages.

Learn about the birds in your backyard at Prospect Park, 10am.
Watch the Super Bowl at these local venues, kick-off at 6:30pm.
Wish neighbor Rob Garcia a happy birthday as he jams at Sycamore, 8pm.
