Ditmas Park Is the Perfect Set for the 1980s? The Carrie Diaries Filming on Thursday
Filming: The Carrie Diaries

The CW’s new Sex and the City prequel series called The Carrie Diaries will be filming in the neighborhood on Thursday. Cars need to be moved from most of Rugby Road between Church and Beverley, as well as the south side of Church Ave between Argyle and Rugby, by 10pm on Wednesday.

The TV show, which premiered last month, follows SATC’s main character Carrie Bradshaw, played by AnnaSophia Robb, as she navigates high school in Connecticut. Set in the 1980s, it’s already been spoofed on Saturday Night Live with a commercial for “The Soprano Diaries.”

This is the second TV series set in the ’80s to film in Ditmas Park recently. The Americans, an FX show about covert KGB agents, was here on location in January. That show’s creator, former CIA agent Joe Weisberg, told Entertainment Weekly that finding the location for a period show, even a period as recent as the ’80s, can be difficult.

”Doing a show set in the ’80s goes back and forth between pure joy and total nightmare,” Weisberg told EW. ”The wardrobe stuff is so fun to do. But the locations are really difficult unless you have a movie budget. I remember at one point saying, ‘It wasn’t that long ago. Things pretty much look the same.’ Turns out that’s not true.”

Aside from the cars, do you think our residential streets can pass for a day 30 years ago?
