Do you love grocery shopping for fresh produce at the Fort Greene Greenmarket, but wish that you could afford to do it more often (or at all, if you’re on an even tighter budget)? Then sign up for this winter/spring season’s batch of two farm fresh boxes, subsidized by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership (MARP) and distributed through Fort Greene SNAP.

The new Farm Fresh Box program is funded through MARP’s Healthy Communities and only costs $10. The boxes are $24 each from Corbin Hill Farms Food Project — MARP pays for the remaining $14 each.

The goal is “to bring affordable and quality food options to Fort Greene-Clinton Hill,” wrote MARP on their blog. Eligibility is open to all neighborhood residents and can be arranged by contacting Shaquana Boykin at shaquana@myrtleavenue.org or by leaving a detailed message with your name and call back number at 718-230-1689 ext. 5#.

Each share will include five to six items of fruit, tortillas, greens, beans, and other seasonal items.

Pick-up dates are Tuesday, February 23 and March 22 from 4-7pm at Fort Greene SNAP’s offices at 324 Myrtle Avenue. Payment can be cash, credit, debit, or EBT/SNAP.

MARP hopes to continue the program, but will first see how these first two months go.

In the meantime, residents can team up to buy a produce share in community-supported agriculture (CSA) for the May-November season with either Greene Harvest CSA or Clinton Hill CSA. Their sign-ups have yet to really get going yet, but you can browse their websites to see what prices are like for weekly pick-ups of vegetables, fruit, eggs, and more.

Both CSA groups require members to work at least one volunteer shift to help distribute produce.
