Know a teen who loves the library? There’s a great opportunity for them to get involved in how things are run!

The Brooklyn Public Library is launching Bklyn Library Youth Council (BkLYC) this fall, which is part of a city-wide initiative to get kids more civically engaged. For this first year, BkLYC will bring teens ages 14-19 together for a program at the Central Library that will teach them the ins and outs of event management.

In addition to learning about proposals, marketing, budgeting, and all that goes into planning an event, teens will have the chance to add their voice to library decision-making, all while meeting other like-minded kids from around the city. Plus, they’ll earn a stipend, volunteer hours, resume-boosting experience, and more.

The group will meet after school on the third Wednesdays of the month at the Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza) starting in November, with additional meetings scheduled over mid-winter break in February.

For more information on the program, check out this site, and to apply, click here. Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 23.
