If your child is feeling adventurous lately, you’re in luck–there are some awesome classes coming up around the neighborhood, whether your little one is interested in the arts, science, movement, or even finding inner peace.

Alden Moves Classes and Samplers

Local dancer Alden LaPaglia is now holding classes at Children’s Corner (69 Stratford Road on the corner of Church Avenue), and is offering reduced prices for students who’d like to try something new in 2014.

On Wednesday, January 8, her Get Moving class for 2.5- to 3-year-olds and their caregivers (4-4:45pm), Get Moving Class for 4- to 5-year-olds (5-5:45pm), and Dancing Daisies Pre-Ballet for 4- to 6-year-olds (6-6:45pm) are all $5, after which all resume regular package or drop-in pricing. Parents’ Night Out/Children’s Class at Brooklyn ARTery

Brooklyn ARTery (1021 Cortelyou Road between Stratford Road and Coney Island Avenue) continues their fun for kids and adults alike on Saturday, January 18 from 6-8pm. Parents can enjoy a nice night out in the neighborhood with drink vouchers while their children ages 5-11 learn from professional musicians, artists, and storytellers. $25 per child and $15 per sibling; register here.

Jaya Yoga Classes for Kids

Jaya Yoga East (2902 Fort Hamilton Parkway on the corner of E 4th Street) is offering a 10-week session for kids ages 3-7 to learn about the practice of asana, Sanskrit names of poses, songs, and more with instructor Lisa Fernandez.

Classes start on Thursday, January 9, and run from 3:30-4:15pm. Register by paging through Jaya’s class schedule and deciding which Thursday works best for your child, or check out Baby and Me or Music Together classes.

Kiddie Science Classes at Lark

Budding Marie Curie on your hands? Kiddie Science instructor Ms. Carmen, who has been teaching children from pre-k to high school age for over a decade, is bringing her skills to Lark (1007 Church Avenue between Stratford Road and E 10th Street) beginning Tuesday, January 14.

Kids ages 2-3 and their caregivers are welcomed to 10-10:45am Thursday classes centered around colors, chemical reactions, invertebrates, the digestive system, and more, while 4-5pm Tuesday classes for kids ages 4-7 include topics like electricity, light and sound, basic chemistry, and the scientific method. All classes are $20; register here.

Spellbound Theatre Classes at Third Root

The popular children’s play group presents Creative Journeys, a set of eight classes that combines beloved books with games, movement, drama, and songs, as well as fun additions like puppetry and costumes.

The class is designed to foster social skills, literacy, and imaginative play in kids 1.5-3 years, and will be held Tuesdays at 11am beginning January 14 at Third Root Community Health Center (380 Marlborough Road between Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads).  Class package is $185; register here.
