Growing up in a world where chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, and beans are considered a beautifully balanced meal, Dr. Pepper is free-flowing, and peach cobbler is healthy because, let’s be real, it has fruit in it, makes it difficult to sometimes move beyond foods that are already familiar.

That’s why, when we visited Stoop Juice (443 7th Ave), who officially opened their doors this morning, the long list of spinach, wheat grass and chard infused juices definitely brought about a touch of anxiety.

Fear not, picky eaters. Owner Jose Franco and his gang of juicers will welcome you into their shop with open arms. A vegan himself, Jose quickly steered us toward the vegetable juices. Now, we’d be lying if we said that our heart wasn’t longing for a peachy keen smoothie, but what’s the point of life if you’re not going to infuse a bit of adventure (and maybe a little green) into it?

Enter the above kale, cucumber, parsley and apple concoction ($6). Yes, visions of Nickelodeon slime immediately began dancing through our heads, but caution was thrown to the wind and we took a sip.

It was really good. Not only was the juice sweet and refreshing, it was filling, and erased any thoughts of snagging the Milano cookies stashed away in the cupboard. We can totally see this place becoming a regular part of our South Slope morning routine.

Don’t fret if you’re not quite ready to jump on the green train. Stoop Juice has a wide range of organic fresh fruit smoothies, healthy snacks, and vegan meals at the ready. They even have a section dedicated to the smallest of Slopers that contains Earth’s Best and Happy Tot baby food, Go Go Squeeze Applesauce, and more tasty tot treats.

The juice bar is open daily from 7am to 8:30pm. They deliver just about everywhere in the neighborhood, from 3rd Avenue to Fort Hamilton Parkway, and from Flatbush to 36th Street. Customers can also place their orders online (although the site was having a few opening day glitches this morning) and pop in to collect their completed order on the way to the subway or bus.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Stoop Juice, and thanks for bringing a little bit of healthy green stuff into our lives. We’ll definitely be back.
