From documentaries and latte art to ridiculously cute kittens, South Slope is the place to be this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Lucky
When: Thursday, January 30, 7:30pm
Where: Open Source Gallery, 306 17th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues
What: Join Open Source for a screening of Lucky, a documentary by Laura Checkoway that spans five years in the life of Lucky Torres, “a homeless mother masked in tattoos who longs to rise from a life of darkness.”
How much: Free!

Lean About Espresso And Latte Art
When: Friday, January 31, 6pm to 10pm
Where: La Boulangerie Lopez, 647 5th Avenue, between 18th and 19th Streets
What: La Boulangerie Lopez will host a class on espresso making, the history of coffee, and will include a hands-on latte art workshop this Friday. Have coffee loving friends? The cafe says to bring ’em along so they can sample your creations.
How much: $30

Songs For Unusual Creatures
When: Friday, February 1, 4pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street, near 6th Avenue
What: Looking for oddball family fun? Michael Hearst, along with his five-piece band, brings “a highly-geeky A/V presentation of some of the most bizarre animals that roam the planet” to Barbes this Saturday. How can you pass that up?
How Much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation

The Kitten Bowl
When: Sunday, February 2, 12pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Can’t wait for the Puppy Bowl? Supercollider will air Hallmark Channel’s Kitten Bowl this Sunday at noon. If you’ve got you’re own cute and cuddly cat a home, bring a picture up to the bar with you. Attendees will vote on the most fantastic feline, and the “cat’s servant” will receive a free drink or cup of coffee.
How much: Free!
