From ukes and crafts to Zorro’s more flamboyant son, South Slope is definitely the place to be this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Uke Night
When: Thursday, January 23, 7:30pm to 10:30pm
Where: Freddy’s Backroom, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street
What: Get ready to jam with “the most friendly instrument in the world!” Hosted by Katie Down of The Ukuladies, Uke Night is a chance for any and all ukuleles players to join, play and sing in the atmosphere of friends singing songs, sharing playing tips, and generally having fun. Don’t have a uke of your own? They always have an extra or two, so come on out!
How much: Free!

Explore And Create: Arts And Crafts For Kids
When: Friday, January 24, 4pm to 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Friday is still going to be wickedly cold outside, but you can get the kids out of the house by heading up to the Park Slope Library for their arts and crafts hour. Let the creativity flow!  
How much: Free!

Anja Matthes: Out-Sight-In In-Sight-Out
When: Thursdays, 11am to 2pm, Fridays and Saturdays, 2pm to 6pm. Runs through February 5.
Where: Open Source Gallery, 306 17th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues
What: Out-Sight-In In-Sight-Out, a collaborative multimedia project now on display at Open Source Gallery, “examines society’s preconception of sexuality and identity through a personal lens, giving the viewer a glimpse into the daily life of June, a transgender homeless teenager.”
How Much: Free!

Zorro: The Gay Blade
When: Sunday, January 26, 10:30pm
Where: Cafe Steinhof, 422 7th Avenue at 14th Street
What: When Zorro’s dashing son and heir breaks his ankle, it’s up to his flamboyant brother to take over the family’s secret identity. How can you miss that??? It’s Sunday movie night at Cafe Steinhof. Go.
