South Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: April 10-13

From a jazz pianist and super heroes, to an anniversary deathmatch and sprouts, you don’t have to go far for fun this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

The Joel Forrester Quartet
When: Thursday, April 1o, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Jazz pianist Joe Forrester has composed over 1600 tunes, “each drawing from stride, boogie-woogie, bebop, trance and what he likes to call ‘salon pieces.’”  The accomplished musician will be at Barbes on Thursday night, so be sure to stop by for what is sure to be an excellent show.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation

Super Hero Crafts
When: Friday, April 11, 4pm to 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Time for creative fun at the Park Slope Library. This family event is great for all ages, so come out from Friday’s forecast rain and get your super hero craft on.
How much: Free

Songwriter Deathmatch 2 Year Anniversary Party
When: Saturday, April 12, 7pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street
What: It’s an anniversary party at Freddy’s Saturday as neighbor Dave Keener‘s Songwriter Deathmatch, “an intimate, non-violent evening of song with four singer-songwriters in short sets” celebrates two years of performances. The show will feature returning songwriters Rob Paravonian, Robin Aigner, Ray Brown, Dave Foster, Karen Dahlstrom, Mark Humble, and host Dave Keener.
How much: Free

History In Your Hands: Spring Sprouts
When: Saturday and Sundays, April 12-26, 2pm to 4pm
Where: Prospect Park Lefferts Historic House
What: Bring the kids out to Lefferts Historic House on weekends in April to help prepare their potato plot for planting. Participants will also have an opportunity to bring their own planted seedling home.
How much: $3 suggested donation
