South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 9-11
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from spoken word performances at Freddy’s to the return of theatre at Green-Wood, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday.
Game On!
When: Monday, June 9, 3:30-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Calling all teens. Come battle your friends on the video game field at the Park Slope Library. Open to kids ages 12 and up.
How much: Free.
Shape Up NYC: Couch To 5k
When: Monday, June 9, 7pm
Where: Meets in Prospect Park on the porch of Lefferts Historic House
What: Doesn’t this gorgeous Monday just make you want to lace up those sneakers, and make your fitness dreams a reality in Prospect Park? This weekly jog combines group running, walking, and conditioning exercises to get you in shape for long distance running.
How much: Free.
Having A Whiskey Coke With You
When: Tuesday, June 10, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Come out to Freddy’s on Tuesday night for “a reading and performance series featuring a community of New York’s finest poets, writers, musicians, performers and artists.” In addition to the scheduled performers, there’s also an open mic. Those interested in reading can sign up at Freddy’s the night of the event.
How much: Free!
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, June 11, 10:30-11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Our Town Opens At Green-Wood
When: Wednesdays through Saturdays, June 11-28, 7:30pm
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, 5th Avenue and 23rd Street
What: After last year’s successful Spoon River Project, theatre returns to Green-Wood for this summer’s production of Our Town, directed by James Presson. Doors open at 7pm for most shows, with the curtain going up at 7:30, but if you’d like a really unique experience, there will be special midnight performances on June 14, 21, and 28. How much: $30 in advance, $35 at the door, $40 for midnight shows. Note that guests under 25 and members of Green-Wood or the Brooklyn Historical Society will receive $5 off.
