South Slope Events Spotlight: March 6-9
From an artist’s first show and a singing rambler, to Britpop and Green-Wood, you don’t have to go far for fun this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:
Ryan Chaney And Gann Brewer
When: Thursday, March 6, 9pm and 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Whether you’re in the mood for songs “on the sick, the seamy, but always fun fulminations of America’s collective unconscious,” or a Mississippi-born folk-singing rambler, Freddy’s is the place to be on Thursday night, as musicians Ryan Chaney and Gann Brewer take the stage.
How much: Free
“Don’t Let Our Youth Go to Waste” The Paintings Of Leon Chase
When: Friday, March 7, 8pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Ave, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Supercollider hosts the first ever exhibition from artist Leon Chase, who invites the community to “come see my work the way it was meant to be seen: On the walls of a dimly lit bar.”
How much: No cover.
Playtime With Victoryrose
When: Saturday, March 8, 9pm to 2am
Where: Black Horse Pub, 568 5th Avenue and 16th Street
What: Ready for an evening of dancing, music and drinks? Join the gang at Black Horse for some Britpop, indie, electro-pop, new wave and post-punk music.
How much: No cover.
Green-Wood Cemetery: Off The Map Tour
When: Sunday, March 9, 1pm to 3pm
Where: Meet at Sea Witch Tavern, 703 5th Avenue, between 21st and 22nd Streets
What: Explore some of Green-Wood Cemetery’s hidden gems with neighbor and Boroughs of the Dead author Andrea Janes. Afterward, the group will make their way back to Sea Witch for a burger and draft beer, wine or well drink.
How much: $30 (includes ticket and lunch)
