South Slope Events Spotlight: March 13-16

From rare beers and a glow in the dark party, to Old Man Gilly and Friends, you don’t have to go far for fun this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes
When: Thursday, March 13, 6pm
Where: The Owl Farm, 297 9th Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues
What: Ready to expand your beer horizons? Our friends at The Owl Farm welcome Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes, brewer Jérôme Rebetez, and B. United Imports on Thursday night. Look for “several beers from BFM, along with barrel aged variations from the B. United Imports Zymatore series.”
How much: No cover.

Sing-A-Long With Amy
When: Friday, March 14, 10am to 10:30am
Where: Has Beans, 620 5th Ave between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Bring the kids out to Has Beans on Friday for toe tapping fun with musician Amy Miles, who will “get your preschooler bopping with her ukulele or guitar to familiar tunes and others composed by herself.”
How much: $7 per family.

Glow In The Dark Party: Bedtime Math 2
When: Friday, March 14, 3:30pm to 4:30pm
Where: Powerhouse on 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Let author Laura Overdeck show your younglings the fun of math at Powerhouse Friday. In addition to helping kids build their own geometric creations with glowsticks and styrofoam balls, Laura will read problems from her latest book, Glow In The Dark Party: Bedtime Math 2.

Old Man Gilly And Friends
When: Saturday, March 15, 5pm to 7pm
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue at 22nd Street
What: Wind down with Mary’s this Saturday as Old Man Gilly and Friends play classic acoustic folk music.
How much: No cover.

Marek and the Boss Chops
When: Sunday, March 16, 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for a little boogie honky tonk?  How about some early rock & roll? Don’t miss Marek and the Boss Chops, performing at Freddy’s Sunday night.
How much: No cover.
