South Slope Events Spotlight: February 13-16

From the humiliating days of high school to the zombie apocalypse, South Slope is the place to be this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Cringe
When: Thursday, February 13, 7:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: If anything will make you cringe more than another snowstorm, it’s listening to people share stories from high school. Brave souls will take to the stage and read “teenage diaries, notes, poems, abandoned rock operas, and other general representations of the crushing misery of their humiliating adolescence.”
How much: Free

Bell’s Brewery Day
When: Thursday, February 13, 6pm to 10pm
Where: The Owl Farm, 297 9th Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues
What: Come in from the cold, warm up by the Owl Farm fire, and enjoy some beer from Bell’s Brewery. Look for 12 drafts, all $5 each.
How much: Free

Smuttyhearts Dance
When: Friday, February 14, 8pm
Where: Greenwood Park, 555 7th Avenue, between 19th and 20th Streets
What: Bring your sweetheart to Greenwood Park for retro love songs, Smuttynose beer specials, 2-for-1 burgers, and romance.
How much: Free

Life In A Blender
When: Saturday, February 15, 10pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street, near 6th Avenue
What: From  screaming punk to orchestrated chamber pop, Life in a Blender has been wowing audiences for over 25 years…and they’re headed to Barbes this weekend.
How Much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation

The Walking Dead
When: Sunday, February 16, 9pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Even though zombies will never take over South Slope, you can still get your undead fix with our friends at The Monro this Sunday. Look for $3 domestic beers, $4 tall boys, and surround sound!
