South Slope Activities For The Whole Family

Story Play

What: Stories, songs, and play for babies and toddlers!
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket at the reference desk 1/2 hour before the start of the program.
Superhero Training Lab – Mask Making with Mark Ziemann
When: Wednesday, July 8, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Have you signed up for Summer Reading and want to complete your six Summer Reading game board challenges? Join us to work on challenge number two — design and create a superhero costume and gear. With the help of artist Mark Ziemann, we’ll use art supplies and a dash of imagination to design a face mask.
How much: Free, but arrive early to get a seat.
Movies Under The Stars
When: Wednesday, July 8, 8:15pm
Where: Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Join us on the Washington Park turf for a fun favorite movie outdoors. Bring a blanket or beach chairs and a picnic – we have drinks and snacks – including beer & wine for grownups. This week’s movie is Grease.

Nature Exploration
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from games for bird nerds to Citizen Science projects to a chance to meet a resident snake.

Babies & Books
When: Thursday, July 9, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Come hear stories, sing songs, play with toys and meet new friends, for babies and their caregivers.

Chess Club for All Ages
When: Friday, July 10, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Come pass some time this summer playing chess in the spacious auditorium. All skill levels and ages are encouraged to join the fun.

What: Much like on the weekdays, families can enjoy a variety of activities, including bird watching, nature-based projects, and more.

Pop-Up Audubon: Macy’s Fishing Clinics
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 12-6pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: This month, from 1-4pm kids under the age of 15 can learn to fish. From 4:30-6pm, learn how to use binoculars and go bird watching.
How much: Free!
Pop-Up Audubon II: Fishing Fun
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 12-6pm
Where: North End of Esplanade, Prospect Park
What: This month, from 1-4pm kids under the age of 15 can learn to fish. From 4:30-6pm, learn how to use binoculars and go bird watching.

Ezra Jack Keats Story Hour
When: Saturday, July 11, 2pm
Where: Imagination Playground, Prospect Park
What: Gather around Peter and Willy, the statue of two beloved Keats characters, for storytelling adventures brought to life by Tammy Hall. Sponsored by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.

Fun On The Farm
When: Saturday, July 11, 2-5pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Visitors of all ages can come help the Lefferts staff take care of the potato plot, herb gardens, and berry patches by pulling weeds and helping to water. Bring a hat and a bottle of water and we will provide the tools and gloves.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Family Bird Watching
When: Sunday, July 12, 10am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Looking for a fun way to spend time with your family outdoors? Join the Alliance for its monthly family bird watching tours. After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.
How much: Free!
Hip Tot @ Lakeside
When: Sunday, July 12, 11am-2pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Prospect Park
What: Families will enjoy the original, interactive songs of Brooklyn’s own Mil’s Trills, a children’s music project led by Amelia Robinson, that invites families to celebrate the community through original interactive tunes and a rotating cast of musical guests.
