Smorgasburg Is Coming To Prospect Park
If you’ve been thinking the one thing missing from Prospect Park is ramen burgers, you’ll be glad to know they’ll soon be available, along with many more food options, as the uber-hip Smorgasburg is setting up shop in our big backyard.
Starting August 30, the outdoor eating extravaganza will be moving from its current home in Brooklyn Bridge Park to Breeze Hill in Prospect Park. From 11am-6pm every Sunday through October 11 (11am-4pm on Sunday, September 6), 100 food vendors will set up to sell prepared and packaged food and drinks.
“Providing the community with new ways to enjoy the Park, and more food options, is important to the Alliance,” said Prospect Park Alliance president Sue Donoghue in a statement.
Founded by Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby as a spin-off of Brooklyn Flea in May 2011, Smorgasburg often attracts “upwards of 10,000 visitors,” according to its website.
“We’re sad to leave Brooklyn Bridge Park, but it’s hard to complain when our new home is literally Brooklyn’s backyard,” Demby said in a statement.
Vendors are expected to include Red Hook Lobster Pound, Milk Truck Grilled Cheese, People’s Pop, Home Frite, Big Mozz, Best Buds Burritos, and more.
A representative from the Prospect Park Alliance tells us the park’s other food event — the Sunday Food Truck Rally at Grand Army Plaza — will continue as scheduled. The remaining dates are August 30, September 20, and October 4 and 18.
