Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Warnings For Brooklyn, Queens

1

Well, when it rains it pours, folks. And it’s about to pour.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until 3:15 p.m. for Queens and Brooklyn, and a severe thunderstorm warning until 2:30 p.m. for Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

According to the National Weather Service’s website, a “weak low pressure trough will linger over the region today and help trigger scattered to numerous thunderstorms into this evening. The trough will then pass to the east late Wednesday night.”

Let’s hope it washes away some of this humidity, and sets us up for a nice weekend.

  1. The weather was really wierd today. The sun was out in Manattan Beach until after 3PM.  The rest of the sky was dark except where the sun was and you could hear thunder constantly from 1 to 3 PM in the sunshine.  At about 3:15, lifeguards ordered everyone out of the water and at 3:30 it finally started to rain.

  2. Question would flood insurance cover a none floor zone? Even if your garage is flooded?
when it like sheets of rain?

  3. Is it even possible to buy flood insurance in a non flood zone?  Wouldn’t your standard homeowner’s policy cover the damage?

  4. My insurer (Allstate) had me buy separate flood coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program a few years back. $417/year currently. Haven’t filed any claims yet.

  5. Homeowners’ insurance doesn’t cover floods. And to add [email protected]:disqus ‘s statement, flood insurance doesn’t take effect for 30 days after it’s bought unless you’re in a designated flood zone and must buy it as a condition of completing the purchase of your home.

  6. I have Allstate also and they do not cover in a no flood zone what I was told from what I understand.
    thank you Lizi

  7. Yes you are correct Adam this is what I was told also. The flood zone ends on Ave X at my cornor accross the street. so I missed it by 1 block. They have Zones A B C and so on. I am in Zone B.
Thank you everyone for helping out
