On Thursday, September 28, police arrested 17-year-old Nycoyan Mattocks of Prospect Heights and charged him with the murder of 68-year-old Brenda Ramos of East Flatbush.

Another teen, Nia Williams, was arrested on September 8 in connection to the incident.

Early in the morning on December 16, 2016, police found Brenda Ramos unconscious and unresponsive in her Kings Highway home between East 94th and East 95th Streets. EMS transported Ramos to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Following an investigation, Ramos’ death was deemed a homicide in April 2017, according to police.

Mattocks and Williams, along with another male suspect, broke into Ramos’ apartment and allegedly hit the victim with a hammer in a robbery attempt, according to the New York Daily News. The attack caused Ramos to suffer a fatal heart attack, the paper states.

Joseph Alexander, Ramos’ 40-year-old roommate, was also attacked by the trio who took off with his cell phone, wallet, and video game console, the Daily News reports.

The investigation remains ongoing.
