Got old electronics gathering dust in your apartment? Toss them responsibly this Saturday, October 19 from 10am to 4pm, at the e-waste recycling event sponsored by the Park Slope Civic Council, the Lower East Side Ecology Center, Councilmember Brad Lander, and Tekserve.

Part of the Fall Civic Sweep, you can drop off both working and non-working electronics at J.J. Byrne Playground, 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets, and LES Ecology will take it off your hands for either refurbishing or recycling.

Here’s what they’ll accept:

• Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes)
• Monitors
• Printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.)
• Tablets and e-readers
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.)
• TVs, VCRs, DVRs, and DVD players
• Digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers
• Portable music players
• Audio-visual equipment
• Video-games
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs
• Telecommunication (phones, answering machines, etc.)

They’ll also take batteries, but ask that alkaline and rechargeable batteries are separated, with the terminals of the rechargeable batteries taped up. They cannot accept home appliances such as microwaves, refrigerators, or air conditioners.

Anyone who drops-off electronic equipment will be entered in Tekserve’s raffle, where you can win a MacBook Air. Zipcar members will recieve a coupon for $15 of free driving credit for coming to the event.
