Plans are in the works to turn the storefront formerly known as Choice Greene (214 Greene Avenue between Grand Avenue and Cambridge Place) into a restaurant, owner Thierry Cabigeos along and Choice general manager told Community Board 2 at a meeting last night.

The restaurant will include a raw bar featuring oysters, as well as lobster and crab rolls, artisinal cheeses and charcuterie options, sandwiches from sister establishment Choice Market, and bespoke salads–but no cooking, as the premises does not have adequate ventilation. Thierry and co are also applying for a full liquor license for the forthcoming eatery, which is set to include 49 seats inside and 20 seats in the back garden. Thierry explained the inside of the restaurant will include “a lot of leather,” while the outdoor area will feature planters and a wall-mounted herb garden.

“There’s really nothing like it around here,” Thierry said.

CB2 members initially expressed some concern about the noise level the restaurant would create, but were assured that although plans are to stay open until 4am nightly indoors, the backyard will only be open until 11pm Sunday through Thursday and 12am Friday and Saturday.

When confusion arose over a discrepancy about live music–the initial paperwork filed for the restaurant says live music is planned, but during last night’s meeting, the board was told that there would be none–Thierry and Choice’s GM explained they had simply meant “live Pandora or Spotify” played low, indoors only, “for ambiance.” After some discussion, the board voted affirmatively to recommend the restaurant’s liquor license application be approved.

Besides Choice Market, Thierry is also the proprietor of Bed-Stuy’s ever-popular Dough Donuts. Brownstoner noted changes at Choice Greene back in February, but were not given information about the space’s future at the time.

We will keep you updated on the restaurant as we learn more, so be sure to check back for updates.
