Q train riders can look forward to shuttle bus service between Kings Highway and Atlantic Avenue for four consecutive weekends starting at the end of January while the MTA does needed track work.

A representative for Senator Marty Golden informed us of the transit disruption. And the senator’s office forwarded us an email from the MTA about the changes.

The work starts on the weekend beginning Saturday, January 30, and takes place for the following four weekends.

The MTA told Golden’s office that the work is part of a transit switch replacement project along the Q line in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

While the track work is likely to cause a headache for weekend Q train riders, it’s considerably less disruptive than upcoming changes on the N line — which will lose eight stations for 14 months while the MTA overhauls the stops. (Elected officials are petitioning for the MTA to provide temporary platforms in order to ease the burden on commuters.)

The R line is also expected to lose two stations for several months as part of a massive reconstruction project by the state.

Update [January 30, 12pm]: According to the MTA’s website, there is no Q train service between Kings Highway and 57th Street in Manhattan. Shuttle buses operate between Kings Highway and Atlantic Avenue. N and R trains replace the Q train between Atlantic Avenue and 57th Street.
