Congratulations to 10-year-old Kaylee Hammond, a PS 321 5th grader who competed at a New York Road Runners Youth Jamboree this past weekend in the 100-meter and 200-meter races in her age group and received 1st place ribbons in both events!
Kaylee has been a member of the PS 321 Mighty Milers program for four years and also belongs to Park Slope’s new Run4Fun running group, and says she “likes the competition of Jamborees,” and “likes exercise better than sleeping in on the weekends!”
Her 12-year-old brother Kevon is also a runner, but “I’m faster!” she noted.
Kenute Hammond, Kaylee’s dad, used to be a runner himself, and says he “is a life-long exerciser who now enjoys walking and the elliptical.” He is very proud of Kaylee and brings her to any running event she wants to register for. When Kaylee was in 3rd grade, she competed in the adidas Grand Prix Fastest Kid in New York competition and came in 4th!
Kaylee joined nearly 2,000 kids at Saturday’s NYRR Youth Jamboree on Randall’s Island. Free and open to all NYC kindergarten through high school students, the Jamborees have provided a fun venue for kids to learn about track and field since 2004.
