PS 133 Open House and Info Session Tomorrow

new building ps 133

PS 133 will host an informational session tomorrow, December 18, at 9:00am. Learn about the new building, which will be open by September, as well as the school’s dual-language immersion programs in French and Spanish– the first of its kind in Brooklyn.

The elementary school was the source of some controversy earlier in the fall with their proposed “affirmative action” policy to give admissions preference to both English Language Learners (ELL) and Free- and Reduced-Price Lunch (FRPL) recipients. The proposition was meant to preserve diversity in the school as its population expands from 230 to 900 students, potentially including students displaced from PS 321.

The Department of Education, after some initial opposition, agreed in December to reserve 30% of its seats for ELL and FRPL students, in a move that New York Daily News calls “well worth close watching.” Its new building will serve students from both Districts 13 and 15.

Meeting is located at current PS 133 location, 211 Eighth Street at 4th Avenue. For more information, call (718) 857-4810.
