PROSPECT PARK – Although Prospect Park went car free at the beginning of this year, a new “garage” compound for park maintenance and operations will come to the park in the not too distant future.

Permits were filed by the Prospect Park Alliance for a two-story structure that will yeild about 2,200 square feet of office space. The NYC Parks project tracker shows plantings, paving, fencing and retaining walls will be included in the project, which is projected to cost $1-3 million in funds from the Borough President and City Council.

There isn’t an official location for the structure yet, but according to YIMBY, the facility will relocate Parks Department staff out of the Tennis House, which received money for an upgrade last year, returning the historic building to its intended public use.

Even with permits filed, the project is still in the procurement phase, which is slated to end in September of this year. There’s no projected start date for construction, though that part of the process will last 12-18 months.
