Premium Style Fashion Store Replaces Computer Center On Avenue U

The long-lived Sysut Computers Computer Service Center – one of the neighborhood’s first tech stores at 2021 Avenue U – has moved. In its place comes Premium Style, a new clothing store set to open soon. Apparently it will focus on European fashion.

As for Sysut, a Yelp reviewer notes that they’ve moved to Nostrand Avenue and Avenue P. Now a repair and parts shop, Sysut holds a special place in my heart. Back in the early 90s it was the only local place to buy Apple IIGS games long after they became irrelevant. Really, it was probably irresponsible to sell Leisure Suit Larry to a kid my age, but I turned out okay.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Premium Style. And good luck in your new location, Sysut.

  1. Times are changing. The simple and practical is being replaced by the hip/cool/high culture and the decadent.

A computer repair store replaced by a “premium style” clothing store. A scuba divers store replaced by a smoke shop. The condos on Brighton used to be Brighton Beach Bath and Racquet Club. There was even a diner on Brighton not too long ago. These are just a few examples.

Those who value a simpler, more practical lifestyle take notice if you haven’t already.

  2. I went into Sysut with some birthday money long ago, and started browsing the games. I must have been about 12 or 13 years old. After 10 to 15 minutes of me reading boxes and trying to narrow down what I wanted, the guy behind the counter told me to pick one, or leave. There was a detectable note of annoyance in his voice, and to this day, I’m not sure why.

I left, and walked down to A&R near Trio Pizza to buy my game, and never set foot into Sysut ever again. Can’t say I’m too sad to see them go.

  3. SYSUT computer store, was a filthy store. I was RIPPED OFF BIG TIME
by ADAM. So glad to see that filthy store gone. Once they got your money, they didn’t want to know you anymore. They observed the sabbath as they were closed on Saturday. HYPOCRITES is what they are. Their religion is the $$$$$$$.

  4. Only the young, hip trendy and beautiful people who wear scarves and text on Facebook all day count in this beautified and gentrified society of today. If you notice, no one dresses sloppy or laid back anymore. Youngsters (especially) follow the the herd and dress in high fashion. People today are not true to what they really are. Everything is upscale (bullsh1t) today. What a cold and shallow world we are living in today.

  5. Thats to bad because they changed management a few years ago and I found them friendly and very helpful with my computer problems. Much better turn around on repairs than the big box stores!
