Pratt is planning to expand student housing with a new 10-story tower in Clinton Hill.

Canon Design is the architect of record for the 118-foot building that will rise at 135 Emerson Place, between Myrtle Avenue and Willoughby Avenue, according to a filing with the New York City Department of Buildings.

“Like so many New York City based institutions, Pratt is planning for an anticipated shift in the affordable housing stock compounded with continued enrollment growth,” said a Pratt spokesperson to DNAinfo.

Pratt acquired the property from Cara Development in 2012 for $13 million, according to The Real Deal.

DNAinfo reports:

The new residence hall will include a mix of living, academic and social spaces, the spokeswoman said. There will also be a variety of student lounge spaces, including one for first-year students, a convenience store and bike storage.
Construction on the new dorm will begin this summer and is slated to be completed by fall 2017, according to Pratt.

The site has been vacant since 2006, according to the Myrtle Avenue Business Partnership.

The plans come amidst change for Pratt, where longtime President Schutte recently announced plans to step down at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.
