Police ID Pattern of Residential Bike Burglaries in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG – The NYPD has identified a pattern of bike burglaries from residential buildings in Williamsburg.

A thief has been gaining access to the bike storage rooms of buildings in the vicinity of Berry and South 5th Streets and stealing expensive bicycles from residents. Police say that building locks and doors show no damage, so the thief may have followed residents in, or buzzed apartments until they were let in.

On Saturday, July 1st, around 9:00pm, an individual stole a Trek 1000 road bike and a specialized Langster from a building in the area. Police said the bikes totalled around $2,100.

Then, on Sunday, September 3rd, just after 3:00 am, an individual using the same tactics stole a $9,000 Low bicycle from another residence.

A suspect wanted in connection with the crimes can be seen in one of the bike rooms on the surveillance video below:
