Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
National Batman Day masks via DC Comics


Things are heating up this summer, but there are a lot of fun ways for you and the kids to cool off! Celebrate 75 years of Batman with crafts and trivia, take a boat for a ride in Prospect Park, and splash and play on local streets during giant block parties. Details on those and more upcoming events that are fun for the whole family:

National Batman Day
When: Wednesday, July 22, 1-4pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Join other Batman fans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Caped Crusader! Decorate your own Batman mask from 1-2pm, and then kids can enjoy a Batman-themed trivia contest from 2-3pm (and adults can get in on the trivia from 3-4pm), with winners selected and contacted after the event concludes.

Story Craft
When: Thursday, July 24, 2pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, July 24, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!

Blooming Naturalists
When: Friday, July 25, 1-2pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Using fun games and activities, kids will learn what makes birds so special in this introduction to birdwatching series.
How much: Free!

Summer Strolls
When: Friday, July 25, 5-9pm
Where: 5th Avenue, between 12th and 18th Streets
What: Whether you missed out last week, or just saw how much fun it could be, the Summer Strolls are back again this weekend, transforming busy 5th Avenue into a giant block party, which is worth the walk down the Slope. Look for live music, a climbing wall, vintage cars, fun and games, food, drinks, and more.
How much: Free!

Free Public Rowing
When: Saturday, July 26, 12-4pm
Where: Boat ramp on Well House Drive, Prospect Park
What: Take the kids for a boat ride around the Prospect Park Lake! The Prospect Park Alliance and the Village Community Boathouse are teaming up to make rowing accessible to all on select dates this summer, so paddle on over.
How much: Free!

Summer Strolls
When: Saturday, July 26, 12-5pm
Where: 7th Avenue, between 9th and 16th Streets
What: Can’t make it out to 5th Avenue on Friday night? Lots of family-friendly fun to be had along 7th Avenue during this other big neighborhood block party on Saturday afternoon!
How much: Free!

Summer Science Club
When: Saturday, July 26, 1-3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Got a budding biologist or a future physicist? Kids ages 2 and up are invited to try out some fun science crafts and activities in the children’s room every Saturday through mid-August.
How much: Free!

History In Your Hands: Summer Songs And Stories
When: Sunday, July 27, 2pm & 3pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Sit under a big tree and enjoy tales from around the world as storyteller and musician Tammy Hall brings the age-old art of storytelling to Prospect Park.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
