Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

The kids are off from school and we’re deep in the summer heat, but there are plenty of ways to keep busy — and cool! Mix and mingle with creepy bugs at the air conditioned library, take a boat for a ride in Prospect Park, and splash in a water play area while grooving to the sounds of some fun kids bands. Details on those and more upcoming events that are fun for the whole family:

Story Play
When: Wednesday, July 9, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: At this weekly program, bring children from birth to 5 years to enjoy stories and some playtime.
How much: Free, but tickets are required (one per family), so arrive early.

Story Craft
When: Thursday, July 10, 2pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!

Creepy Crawlies
When: Friday, July 11, 3:30pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: This hands-on workshop is not for the faint of heart! It’s a chance for bug-crazy kids to get up close and personal with giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches, tarantulas, and other creatures.
How much: Free!

Free Public Rowing
When: Saturday, July 12, 12-4pm
Where: Boat ramp on Well House Drive, Prospect Park
What: Take the kids for a boat ride around the Prospect Park Lake! The Prospect Park Alliance and the Village Community Boathouse are teaming up to make rowing accessible to all on select dates this summer, so paddle on over.
How much: Free!

Summer Science Club
When: Saturday, July 12, 1-3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Got a budding biologist or a future physicist? Kids ages 2 and up are invited to try out some fun science crafts and activities in the children’s room every Saturday through mid-August.
How much: Free!

The Numberlys Storytime
When: Saturday, July 12, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Children ages 3 to 7 will enjoy hearing this story about heroes attempting to break through the norm — and expect some related activities, as well.
How much: Free!

Hip Tot Family Day
When: Sunday, July 13, 11am-2pm
Where: Lakeside, Prospect Park
What: Bring the family for this Beat the Heat Rock ‘n Roll Party, where you’ll hear tunes from Brooklyn faves Audra Rox and Jeremy Plays Guitar, and enjoy some sing-alongs, story time, crafts, and freebies (while supplies last). Rain or shine!
