Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

We’re coming up on a long holiday weekend for a lot of kids, so if you’re looking for some fun, local ways to keep them entertained, we’ve got a few ideas:

Drum Along With Ivan
When: Thursday, January 16, 10am
Where: Two Moon Art House & Cafe, 315 4th Avenue
What: For the little budding rockstars at home! Bring the kids to get into the groove with Ivan.
How much: $7 per family

Storytime
When: Friday, January 17, 10am
Where: Whole Foods, 214 3rd Street
What: Turns out the massive new supermarket that seems to have everything was missing something — they’ve now introduced a storytime series, upstairs in the second level seating area. This week they’re reading Compost Stew by Mary McKenna Siddals, and will teach how to make compost at home. Recommended for ages 3-6.

Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts For Kids
When: Friday, January 10, 4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side.
How much: Free!

Story Play
When: Saturday, January 18, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids from birth to age 5 are invited to play with toys and hear stories.
How much: Free!

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Youth Dreamers
When: Saturday, January 18, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Ahead of the holiday on Monday, celebrate Dr. King’s legacy with readings and performances by young poets and the student musicians of the Noel Pointer Foundation.
How much: Free!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Programs In Prospect Park
When: Monday, January 20
Where: Prospect Park
What: The park is open and hosting several events, including a number of free activities from 12-4pm, like Nature on the Go at the Audubon Center and a community conversation about King at the Lefferts Historic House. The zoo will also be open from 10-4:30pm, and there’s a special program for young tennis pros at the Tennis Center.
